Held at Empowered Spaces, St. Louis

Empowered Spaces is proud to partner with Circle Yoga Shala — a nationally recognized yoga school whose commitment to deep, intelligent, body-based training aligns with everything we believe about how healing happens. This is a Circle Yoga Shala program, taught by their expert faculty, held in the Empowered Spaces community.

Yoga is more than a physical practice, yet few of us are taught how the different pieces fit together, or what they are ultimately aiming toward.

The Whole of Yoga is a three-part workshop that offers a clear introduction to a fuller understanding and experience of the Yoga practice.

It is for those who are completely new to Yoga, those who still consider themselves beginners, and those who have been practicing for some time but sense there is something more to Yoga than what they have encountered so far.

This weekend offers a way to understand not only how to practice, but why. We’ll explore what different practices are intended to cultivate and how they work together as parts of a larger system. We will explore several essential dimensions of practice, including asana (posture practice), pranayama (breath work), and meditation.

No previous experience is necessary.

You don't need to be flexible, know any poses, understand Yoga philosophy, or already know how to meditate.

And if you have been practicing for years, this weekend is an invitation to return to the foundations with fresh eyes and perhaps discover something that has been missing from your practice.

Come with curiosity. Leave with a clearer understanding of what Yoga is, what we are practicing, and where the practice is leading us.

Session 1: What Are We Practicing Toward?

Why do we begin with the body and the practice of postures, and how do you know when you're practicing them “right”?

Session 2: Why Do We Work With the Breath?

What does breathing have to do with Yoga beyond coordinating breath with movement?

Session 3: How Do We Work With the Mind?

What is meditation for and how does it help you take Yoga practice off the mat?

Each session includes accessible philosophy teaching, guided practice, and processing (time to reflect on your experience, share what you noticed, ask questions, and receive guidance).
