Jessie Kissinger, PLPC, RYT-500
Psychotherapist, Yoga Teacher
I am a provisionally licensed professional counselor (PLPC). I work with individuals and couples who are navigating loss, trauma, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship issues. Many of the people I see are curious about mindfulness and the mind-body connection. We might be a good fit if you want to get better at sensing and naming your emotions and needs. You want to learn how to hold difficult feelings with unconditional kindness. You're hoping to explore old relational patterns and find new ways to nurture your connections with yourself and others. Or maybe you struggle with trusting your intuition, but you know your body has information for you if you could just find a way to listen.
I believe counseling is most transformational when it sensitizes you to what’s happening in your mind, heart, and body and helps you meet whatever you find with compassion. Feeling your feels (literally) is the first step to making sense of them. Within that confusion is the possibility of deeper self-knowledge and freedom. Alongside therapy, I offer trauma-informed yoga classes and private sessions. I see yoga as a powerful companion to therapy because it fosters a kind attention to the body and gives tools that support grounding, presence, and personal integration.
My background includes a master’s in clinical mental health counseling with a certificate in multicultural and social justice counseling from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. As a provisionally licensed counselor, I’m receiving supervision from Rebecca Ehrke, Psy.D., SEP. I have attended workshops or trainings in the Gottman Method, Somatic Experiencing, Hakomi, and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga. I am also a registered 500-hour yoga teacher and have been practicing yoga and mindfulness for over 15 years. I find wisdom in the natural world and have studied agroecology and permaculture, which means it’s not uncommon for me to use a garden metaphor or recommend that we go outside to get a little connection and support from the Earth.
